Renderplas PVC beads contribute to the sweet smell of success for British Sugar HQ

Sugar HQWhat happens when British Sugar need a new home for their head office, they commission a giant sugar cube to be built of course! Early in 2018 work started on the construction of a new multi million pound Head Office for British Sugar in Peterborough, based on the Architect’s simple concept of a white box.
To complement the contemporary glass exterior, 368 linear meters of Renderplas PVC shadow gap profiles have been installed above the skirting boards in the internal pods and around the doors within the partitions. The shadow gaps are an integral design element of the building; sleek minimalist shadow gaps between the walls, skirting boards and door frames create clean, internal lines unimpeded by the traditional use of skirting boards, architraves and cornicing.
Tom Lott, Managing Director of TJL Plastering Ltd, has over 40 years’ experience in the trade, he knew that the installation of Renderplas PVC shadow gaps would dramatically reduce the time required compared to traditional methods;
When working on a large project of this type where deadlines are tight, my team need to work with materials they know won’t fail. Renderplas shadow gap profiles are easy to cut and handle compared with traditional galvanised metal alternatives. For us this means a quick turnaround, less waste and a far neater finish, a PVC weld can be used to seal any joints ensuring perfect, smooth lines.
The new Head Quarters was opened ahead of schedule in December 2018 and is a busy environment housing over 350 staff. Renderplas PVC profiles are the perfect choice for any commercial building as they are impact resistant, a particularly useful feature at skirting level where there is a large amount of footfall and cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners and mops may be in regular contact with the profiles.
The PVC used to manufacture the shadow gaps is UV stable ensuring that the large amounts of light from the glass facades will not discolour the profiles. Renderplas shadow gap beads are also fully recyclable; a key feature for any low energy building solution.
Renderplas Managing Director Daniel Leedham-Green; “Renderplas have stocked two different shadow gap profiles for many years, they are still a relatively underutilised profile which is why it is great to see them being specified for installation on such a large scale throughout this building. I can’t think of a better way to complement the Architect’s concept of minimalism, space & simplicity.”
